Re: Heroin Overdose & Opioid Related Deaths from the United States [Big Collection]

On May 2, 2008, a 51 year old man in the Salt Lake City suburb of Provo parked his truck near a church where a drug-addiction recovery session was scheduled to commence. He took his 12-Gauge and shot himself through the mouth. He was struggling with a harrowing heroin addiction that began after the untimely death of his wife a year earlier.

The photos were originally posted at DR in 2008. But I didn't find the backstory on there.

No one can really say what the 51 year old man was thinking one spring evening in May 2008. Arriving early to an LDS Family Services 12-step program for recovering drug addicts, he sat alone in his pickup in the church parking lot. Whether he thought of family, friends or felt only the gnawing pain of the heroin addiction he’d wrestled with so desperately, no one will ever know. With less than half an hour before his support class started, though, whatever he felt or thought, he decided he didn’t want any more of it. So he placed a 12-gauge shotgun in his mouth and ended his life.

He was not a gang member or a troubled youth; he was a beyond-middle age man who happened to work, at the time of his suicide, at a call center in American Fork. Mentoring of America, a nondescript Utah County call-center company, has been described by former employees as a den of iniquity. They tell of sales people with silver tongues consulting on real-estate deals across the nation—dialing in serious dollars and partying like rock stars. Dealmakers might close a sale on a costly real estate program with an elderly couple in Florida, and on their breaks sling cocaine, OxyContin as well as marijuana brownies to their co-workers. Employees might shoot heroin up in the bathrooms or drop ecstasy while on the phone with customers.

As a former employee describes it, on payday, the sales floor would make a liquor store run before lunchtime and by the end of the day, might be taking down customer’s credit-card information drunk, high or both.

“He was a victim of this industry,” says a former sales-team leader with Mentoring of America.

Still have this picture?

Here's a mirror. I was wondering why she was giving him mouth-to-mouth and after looking this up, I learned mouth-to-mouth can revive overdose victims if narcan is not available.

Opiate overdoses are usually caused by respiratory failure. What is needed, even more than the amphetamine-like jolt to the system that Narcan provides, is air.

So the trick is to get the chest moving to get oxygen into the lungs. While almost no one has Narcan handy, everyone has a mouth, and that’s what you should use if someone ODs in your presence. And even if you haven’t had CPR training, you can cup your hands and breathe your own air into the lungs of the OD victim.

Re: Heroin Overdose & Opioid Related Deaths from the United States [Big Collection]

In 2001, a mother came home to find her 17-year-old son had overdosed on heroin.

He survived but was in a coma for six weeks. He awoke blind with no function in his arms or legs and couldn’t speak.

Since then, his mother has become his full-time caretaker.

If we would stop trying to save these people when they od the entire problem would work itself out quickly. It is a self solving problem if we let it work. Pretty soon they are all dead and I no longer am denied pain pills when I need one. Government trying to solve a problem that is self solving if they would stop meddling in it and stop sending EMT'S when someone takes too much. How many years have they been fighting this and not winning. Winning is when we let this work out on its own.

The supplement and herb called KRATOM would cure this epidemic. It works. It gives the same high but is completely safe and legal. The FDA doesn't want it to be legal cuz then people wouldn't need these opiates or their shitty Suboxone. You can't patent a plant. If you or anyone you know has an opiate problem, suggest they get KRATOM.
Actually you can patent a plant, I had over 20 patents at one time on plants. Propagate without a license and I sue you and win.

Mouth to mouth isn't used for revival, it's used to manually keep oxygen transport going so vital organs don't become damaged until proper resuscitation can be administered. You should always give mouth to mouth regardless of what is or isn't available, it could be the difference between full recovery or brain death.

Ah I see, thanks. I only said that because it was the title to the article by the Huffington Post. But I should take every news article with a grain of salt.
