No, I assure you that 99% of the photos in this thread were taken by media and not police. A few may have been EMT pics, but the vast majority are taken by reporters. I get most of mine from the newspapers themselves or straight from the reporter/photographers' web pages or blogs.

Reporters seem to have a lot of liberty to take these shots south of the border.

Yes, the police are paid to tip off reporters and photogs so that they can always be on the scene to take pics for the rojas columns. The papers pay well for the opportunity and they are called in quickly by cops, neighbors, and even families looking to make a buck.

Worth noting, by the way, that the culture of violence is dramatically different down there than it is here. Your notion that no self-respecting family would let reporters in is grounded in our own notion of propriety here in the US. In Mexico, the 'Notas Rojas' section is in the majority of normal newspapers. Many of the pics in this thread (as well as most of the Mexican car accident and Cartel violence photos) are taken directly from mexican newspapers. This is the shit they read at the dinner table, nestled in between the soccer scores and the 'page 3 girls.'

So while it might seem obscene and absurd to us that a family would allow reporters to take these photos, the 'rojas' pages are very popular in Mexico and have been for decades. Hard for a Yank to get their head around, I know. But that's the way it is.

24 year old woman found hanging in her home this weekend. Body was discovered by her young son.

Medical examiner ruled that cause of death was asphyxia by hanging and the case was treated as a suicide. The following morning however, evidence was discovered that tied an ex-boyfriend of the woman to her death. The padlock on the door had been broken off, there were signs of a struggle around the room, etc. Not sure if he drugged her, beat her, or restrained her, but at this point the police are fairly certain that he hung her one way or another.
