For many reasons but most likely due to the fact that they are treated like second-class citizens. They have to obey their husbands, are forced to marry someone they don't want to, endure sexual, mental + physical abuse. They're too afraid to speak out for fear of bringing shame to the family +/or being severally punished for doing so.

Most of the pictures here are from India/Pakistan because the norms there allow news outlets in those countries to publish pictures of dead bodies. In the West publication of such pictures is not allowed.

The overall suicide rate in the USA and India are similar, but the USA rate is higher for men and lower for women. In India the rates are similar for men and women.

It is believed in the USA women attempt suicide at a higher rate than men, but men are more likely to kill themselves. Women tend to use pills and cutting wrists which are not usually fatal. Men are more likely to use guns.

For every female suicide in India there are almost 2 male suicides (16 and 26).
In most countries male/female suicide ratio is between 3 and 5. In my country its 6.5.
This is real indication who is "second-class citizens" and who is suffering more abuse

It's not a competition between the sexes as to who has the highest suicide rate. I stated the likely reasons why females in countries such as India commit suicide.

Simone: I have traveled extensively in those countries, and I completely agree with your comments.

Also, for what it's worth, in my area of Northern California, I know that in general, the Asian Massage professional do not like customers from India and Pakistan (and probably other nearby countries) because of their abusive attitudes, rude demands for sex, and cheap tips (adding insult to injury)
