Thanks. I don't typically bother providing info about hangers here because this thread us so full anyway. Unless someone asks me specifically or the articles contain a lot of information about the scene and autopsy (though usually only the Indonesians do that). If I have enough photos to give them their own thread, then I post the data.

I guess I figure by this point, no one here really gives a fuck what was wrong for these women that resulted in their choices. Or they've been around long enough to know that 85% of the time it's for 'love', 10% of the time it's for 'debt' and 5% of the time its for 'something else.' :)

That said, for having the highest suicide rate in the world, India (and its surrounding countries) has a hell of a lot of the 5% 'something else.' Though in most cases there it is 'dowry harassment' where the woman is essentially bullied and harassed by the husband's family until she hangs herself and he gets to find a new wife with a new dowry. Note that sometimes the family cuts some corners and just does the poor girl in.

Anyway, here's a 24yo from a few weeks ago that is pretty clearly a suicide. 'Dowry harassment' was cited as the cause.

She is supposedly dead less than an hour in this image, which is fairly clear from the lack of livor in her hands and the obvious dampness of her pants. Typically in India the lightweight material of their clothing dries very quickly, so liquid stains are often no longer visible in postmortem photography. Her face is so dark because the noose trapped the blood in her head when it closed off her arterial pathways, rather than due to any early decomp, etc.

Teen hung herself in Indonesia this weekend. The stated reason was that her parents refused to pay for her internet plan any longer and she was depressed about feeling isolated from her friends and boyfriend as a result.

She used two separate scarves as a noose attached to a pipe above her bed and was discovered by her father hanging inside the house. The scene examiners ruled the death a suicide and cited that the ligature mark was consistent with hanging, her tongue was swollen and clamped between her teeth, and her panties and pajama pants were wet with urine.

The report did not mention it, but my reading has also indicated that the artifact of one of her eyes being closed and the other open is more likely to be seen in hanging deaths than most other types of dispatch. I've seen it before in hangings, though not frequently.
