I did come across an article on this yesterday. Make of it what you will, Cambodian translations are usually a chore to work out, but this one seems alright. The translation from that particular article is as follows:


Siem Reap: On July 4, 2018, a young 15-year-old girl suffers a suicide attempt by hanging herself in a rented room, throwing her husband and his family into surprise. This suicide happened at No. 2 Rental Room in Chomnong Village, Sangkat Salaam, Siem Reap City, Siem Reap Province.

Cops came down to the scene and carried out a forensic examination of the body and concluded that he was actually hanging himself and not involved in the murder. .

Police said that a suicide victim named Mala, 15, had been living in a rented room in Choeung Village, Sala Komruk Commune, Siem Reap Town, Siem Reap Province. Her husband, Sok Nang, 24, is a truck driver.

According to the description of the victim's husband, he said that before the incident, the husband had no argument with his wife. To work, he goes to work as usual. When she finished her job, she returned to work and found her own wife hanging himself for no reason at all. Self-immolate.

The corpses are handed over to the family for traditional festivals.

Are my eyes off, or is there edema from when she was alive? Pooling follows gravity, but to my eyes, the arms seem to swell a bit, too? I'm not used to corpses, so just trying to get my bearings. Edema plus belly would count against gas, while swelling after death would not, right?

Not sure about other states but I haven’t heard of anyone in hills and hollers here hanging themselves. Most all intentional deaths are by self afflicted gun shots or overdose.

Hung herself after an argument with her husband.

The family refused an autopsy (fairly typical in Indonesia, as I think the family gets saddled with the bill, unlike the US where the state pays for it), but the investigating officer said that suicide via asphyxiation was the established cause of death. The report verified that the visual examination noted no injuries to the body aside from the ligature mark and also that the neck was visibly stretched, saliva had dribbled on the shirt, the tongue was protruding, and her underpants were full of excrement.

I've personally known two suicides by hanging here in the USA. It happens fairly commonly, though guns are still the preferred path out for most.

Happens all the time. Suicides aren’t reported as news hardly ever.
