For what it is worth, one of the articles contained a statement by the forensics technician who worked this suicide scene. He stated that based on the type of abrasions on her fingers and scratch marks on her throat, she almost certainly tried to get her hands under the noose AFTER kicking out the chair.

Whether that was entirely reflexive as some here choose to believe or not, the statement issued by the investigating officer was that she "apparently tried to repent of her decision, but acted too late to save herself."

i would think there is only 2 plausible explanations
1) she was testing how it would feel, by using her hands as some sort of cushion for her neck instead of having the rope cut into it
2) she jumped off the chair and then felt how much it hurt and was going to try a less painful/more efficient way (like the syrian girl did)

if anyone gets to that position and has second thoughts, it will be for how to do the job more efficiently, not to abandon the job entirely
getting to the position of putting a rope around your neck and jumping off a chair, is pretty much an unbreakable commitment - there is no turning back; pretty much no one takes their own life at the drop of a hat. there is a lot of thought and planning that goes into it

This teenage girl was found hanging in her family's kitchen. It was initially assumed to be a suicide (and may still be), but forensics noted various possible inconsistencies with the scene that are prompting further investigation.

These Indonesian forensics crews always confuse me with their assessments. In this case, they stated that her neck was broken, but that her feet were too far on the ground for it to have broken in a jump from the nearby chair. They did admit, however, that the rope had sagged under her weight and may have caused her feet to be further down than would be normal. They also commented that it was 'suspicious' that her eyes were closed and that her tongue was not protruding. But anyone who has read this thread knows that plenty of people hang with their eyes closed and with their tongue not sticking out.

Forensics stated as a counterpoint that her shorts contained both urine and feces, which in turn pointed towards it being a suicidal hanging. An odd statement, as bladder/bowel evacuation (while very common in hangings) can occur somewhat frequently in any sort of violent death, not just hangings. This isn't the first time I have seen statements like this mentioned in the reports from Indonesian suicides. I'm not sure what sort of education these guys have and I am, of course, loathe to question the experience of a forensics investigator in any country, but their assessment of the scene is a little odd to me. Or maybe it's just a bad translator.

Here's another hanging from Indonesia from the same day, this one is a 28 year old housewife who stood on a bucket and hung herself in her bathroom. Only one photo and it isn't that great, but I thought I'd post it along with the accompanying news article (both in Indonesian and in 'Google English') to show some of you the amusing and interesting challenges in translating these events into cogent narratives. Note that, despite Google translating the victim being both genders, it was definitively a 28 year old woman. The computer translators just struggle mightily with pronouns. Unraveling all of this garbled nonsense is often the most time-consuming part of finding and posting these photos up here, but one of the best things about DR over most other 'shock' sites is that most of our contributors here take the time to try and get accurate backstories for the photos.

Kapolres Ketapang, AKBP Hady Poerwanto melalui Kapolsek Tumbang Titi, Iptu Pasaribu mengatakan terjadi kasus bunuh diri di wilayahnya. Seorang ibu rumah tangga ditemukan meninggal gantung diri di kamar mandi rumah korban.

“Sementara ini dari hasil olah TKP belum ditemukan tanda-tanda kekerasan terhadap korban. Dari hasil pemeriksaan fisik ditemukan cairan di celana korban dan anus mengeluarkan tinja. Serta posisi lidah terjulur,” tuturnya.

Thanks for the details. In the picture, her fists with
the thumb-inside state might be suggestive for a death by hanging (whether suicide or not) , as we noticed in many similar cases in this thread.

The urine and feces in and of itself mean nothing, but the pattern tells all. Someone strangled and placed on the floor then hanged the stains are higher up the Back, then run down after the body is suspended. Hanged only has a single pattern running down the legs.
