Basically, you wouldn't likely be conscious for more than a few seconds, and for those few seconds you would be stunned. Think about it, if you get a hard knock on the head, you can't think clearly for a minute or two. Also, if you stand up quickly you can feel faint due to a lack of blood getting to the brain - imagine how much that blood supply drops when you're beheaded!

So no, having it sliced off by a skilled and sober swordsman wouldn't be a particularly bad way to go.

Why aren't any of the beheading videos like this? These days they always seem to do it with a dagger. The sword has so much more style!
