He panicked and that was the beginning of the end for him unfortunately. If you're not a person that is 100% comfortable in the water, then you are at risk every time you go in. Simple as that.

Exactly my first thought - warm water, snorkeling, drowned?? How does this happen? But I did see a kid freak out in Hawaii so I guess this is what happens when there's no one around to help (or willing to help)
