He asked him to be his valentine right in the middle of his Basketball team's practice. Which lead to his team ridiculing him. Then the kid starts stalking him with high heels and makeup on during school hours vocally calling out to him in the halls.

You answer the question within your post. That they are "people not like them" is all the reason needed. No other answer is required. The various forms of bigotry and prejudice are variations on the theme of xenophobia where "we" (whatever group you identify with) automatically set the norms of superiority and acceptability. The "others" are always inferior in some respect(s) and thus deserving of everything from ostracism to extermination, depending on the degree of fanaticism the purportedly normative group embraces.
