It's harmless fun when someone is alive and well to laugh at it themselves. Besides that, how do you know that your family members and neighbor don't just laugh so that they can go along with you and avoid being further humiliated. I'm not saying that they don't, but saying that you have a gay family member doesn't make it okay that you make jokes at another's expense. I'm not saying that every humorous statement is offensive; what I am saying is that some of the statements being made in this thread are meant to look like jokes, but don't hide the obvious hatred of the poster.
