Female student in Halmahera Utara, Indonesia hanged herself on her 20th birthday.

According to her best friend, she contacted the student via Whatsapp to wish her a happy birthday. The decedent replied, thanking her for the birthday wish, and then called and left a voice message. In the voice message, she was crying profusely and told her friend to come by her room in the next hour and come in through a window, as the door will be locked. She didn't want her body to rot before being discovered, but instructed her to not tell anyone that she knew beforehand.

Her friend went over as soon as she got the message, hoping to catch the girl in time, but by the time she arrived, she was already hanging and dead in the bathroom of her rented hostel room.

According to the police and media reports, there was no sign of struggle or forced entry aside from the window that was left open. The decedent had used a wooden chair that was kicked over, but did not have any drop so actually asphyxiated in a partial suspension hanging with her legs folded beneath her.

She had no injuries on her body aside from a ligature mark that corresponded with the rope she'd tied to a ceiling beam. Her tongue was swollen and she had bitten down on it while strangling. Bloodied saliva was visible on her chin and the top of her shirt. Her shorts and the floor beneath her were wet with urine.

Between the physical characteristics and the suicide note on voicemail, the case is being treated as a suicide and no motive for her death has been uncovered. Her family refused the autopsy so all enclosed data was taken from the visual exam only.

Unfortunately, as of 24 hours after her body was discovered, all images of her still hanging that I can find are censored. Given that the censoring is the same on all copies of both images, it is obvious they are using the same source so clear images may never surface.

However, as I was able to find antemortem images and postmortem images of her cut down (both in her shorts and tshirt immediately after transport to the morgue and in her burial clothes later in the day), I decided to go ahead and post her thread. Hangings are very difficult to find photos for these days, so even imperfect sets are worth something.

The clothes that they buried her in are hideous, but i am picky with fashion.

Royal blue, white, and black has never looked so wrong together. It’s not the colors necessarily, but the choice of style, I think.

20 year old, you got youth. Most of us were broke when we were young. I was eating instant ramen working at retail and going to school on scholarship.

Who cares if you are broke at 20.... work hard/smart and sky's the limit... unless you become an astronaut.

I was born and lived in 3rd world country and I can confirm that kind of rented house is very common here even in some developed cities, considering our minimum wage is abyssmal.

When I moved to Australia because of a job, I legit felt like a human who just discovered a fire. Like even the cheapest and poorest place to live here could be considered as a middle-class living in my home country, since buying/renting an apartment is actually a very luxurious privilege for most people here.

Also there is a rooted mindset that people gotta have vehicle first rather than having comfortable place to live as priority, that's why if you come here you'll see a lot of people owning bikes and cars but their house looks like coming from the stone age.

Depressing conditions and she was never in any beauty pageants. She may have been headed to a life of raising 5 children in a dirt floor hut.
