Re: Dead Body Found Across the Street from My House
OK.....never have been near a murder scene, so I have some technical questions for you, if you feel like answering them. A. Did the police give you any instructions on what do to with his personal property? Are you allowed into his room, since they already searched it, and collected evidence? Did they tell you not to do anything until 10 days or 2 weeks or something had passed, in case they need to look at something else? B. Do the authorities contact the family to let them know what's going on with their son? I know they contact the victim's family, but what about the guy who was arrested for it? C. How long did it take them to search? D. Did they get a warrant? Or just ask you if they could look around? E. Who cleaned up the mess? I am always seeing blood and debris here on DR, but never anything about who takes care of it afterward. Did the neighbor just spray down the driveway and let it go at that? Or did the authorities have a cleanup crew come in? Sorry all this happened to you.....another experience you don't need...... |

Re: Dead Body Found Across the Street from My House
Let me answer your questions, I know you people want to know. I would want to inquire too if I were on the other side. By the numbers in chronological order.. 1. The sheriffs department homicide had a deputy posted in my hallway, in front of the door, to make sure that nobody disturbed the room. No personnel were allowed to enter his room till the investigation was completed. The police told us (home occupants) to stick around and if they had permission to search our rooms for anything. I have nothing to hide, so I granted them verbal entry authority. There was no timeframe on when we could enter his room after the investigation. As a courtesy, we just dont enter peoples rooms without thier permission, even though they are locked up. His father and sister came by today to collect his personal effects. 2. I dont know how his family got contacted, but the only person that came on the first day on the behalf of Benson was his church pastor. 3. Most of the investigation was conducted outside near the body. That started in the early AM and didnt secure for at least 12 hours. The homicide and deputies kept the street and all people, vehicles, and area secured till the investigation was complete. 4. Yes, they did get a warrant.. Ill post an edited copy of the warrant that was left in our home. Im sorry that its not a crisp clean copy, but it is what it is. 5. I dont know who cleaned up. I went outside and the bloodstain is still on the sidewalk. Not as dark as the real blood, but still very visible. I was going to go clean it up, but fuck that.. Not my deal.. Im truly saddened by the fact that kids and families in this quiet community had to deal with this traumatic event. The actions of one individual black balled every person living in that home. People in the neighborhood give me the dirty looks because of association to this house. Its complete bullshit, but I understand why. I hope this helps you understand some of the details that are normally left out. |

Re: Dead Body Found Across the Street from My House
Thanks for the answers! All most people ever see is the Television version, which I think is usually just B.S. Also, I haven't known anyone at a murder well enough to pose those kinds of questions. As you were closely involved, but not related to Mr. Benson, it actually is a rare opportunity to find out what really occurs during an investigation, and how everything is handled, and from a person who is knowledgable, but not a relative. Thanks very much for the info! This is probably the first time such background data has been on DR, or at least I have never seen it discussed before. Your post is one of the more interesting and thorough ones! Glad you put it up! |
