Re: Cancel My Order for a Smart Car!
Rubbish! anything hitting a semi would be a death trap. Smart cars are awesome in every way except looks. A long standing argument is that crumple zones save lives, this it also rubbish, crumple zones kill PERIOD!. Years ago I used to work in a breakers yard and while using the crusher I put in a modern car with crumple zones and directly after a old EK Holden from 1962, the crusher could not crush the car below the top of the door sill (window frame) yet the modern car was a foot high when done. Modern cars are made for easy recycling and no other reason, I watched a BBC documentary on crumple zones just before I performed this test, and my test concluded what the doco said. I drive Jeeps FSJ's and XJ's, I also have two front wheel drive Mitsubishi Magna's (Diamante's) in the U.S, the reason is the engine is transverse creating strength via hitting the firewall. Even in one of my FSJ's (3 ton Jeep full chassis) and a 360 V8 upfront I would be dead in the same accident. That being said I did put one of my FSJ's into several trees doing 140kph, no seat belt and walked home, three broken ribs, burst fracture of T5 missing teeth and the worst bruising you have ever seen, had I had my seat belt on I doubt I would have received any injuries, had I they would have been minor. Gotta love heavy built cars. Another point to look at is motor racing (motorcycles exempt) how many fatalities are there in motor sports via percentage to real life scenarios, I read somewhere less then 1%, and NASCAR's hit the wall at 200mph. Your worship I call Dale Earnhardt....oh wait wrong witness your honour. :) |
