Re: Cambodia - Young Lady Died After Being Bitten by Rabid Dog
Didn't the photos I posted of her dead confirm that?!

Once they symptoms present themselves, death is a certainty. Rabies is horrible and I've told everyone I know that if they see ANY animal acting strangely to get the hell away from it.

Re: Cambodia - Young Lady Died After Being Bitten by Rabid Dog
People also don't realize that rabid animals can act aggressive(furious form), or they can also act OVERLY friendly(dumb form). I saw a video of a skunk that had gotten into a dog's kennel(a pug) and was just trying to rub itself all over the dog, frantically. I couldn't tell if it was also nipping at the dog, but the dog had no negative reaction, so it wasn't being hurt. I wonder if the virus causes the throat to convulse when attempting to drink, to protect itself(dilution of saliva, decreasing ability to transfer hosts). I find the rabies virus both fascinating and horrifying. I think it's great that there is a preventative vaccine that people can get(wildlife rehabbers and such HAVE to get it) - but I also wonder why such a deadly disease isn't a mandatory vaccine and is only administered AFTER a suspected infection. |

Re: Cambodia - Young Lady Died After Being Bitten by Rabid Dog
Like a normal bite. There is nothing that points to infection, until symptoms emerge, which means the virus has gotten to the brain and death is imminent. That is why it is so important to get to the hospital immediately when bitten by an animal that cannot be confirmed to have had an up to date rabies vaccination. |
