The singer Augusto D.N., known professionally as 'Gutto Xibatada', died at the age of 39 due to complications caused by the monkeypox (Mpox) virus.

According to the Belém Municipal Health Department, the singer was initially treated at the Mário Pinotti Municipal Hospital, where he was placed in isolation and later discharged.

Due to worsening complications from the disease, Gutto returned to the hospital on April 22. He was admitted to an isolation bed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where he passed away the same day.

On the singer’s social media, his sister shared that Gutto had already been showing symptoms of the disease since the end of last year, but chose to hide it from the public. He suffered seizures and a fever of 40 degrees Celsius. Furthermore:

The blisters spread and compromised his health, as he was asthmatic. The disease attacked his lungs, and he lost the ability to speak, see, and feel. On his last day, he was in very bad shape, with his nose and mouth obstructed, unable to eat anymore.

Additionally, his sister reported that on the day of his death, Gutto was not connected to a heart monitor, with hospital staff explaining that it was not possible due to the blisters, a characteristic symptom of the disease. The family also reported delays in medical care and a shortage of basic hospital supplies at the emergency hospital, including sheets, masks, and even pain medication.

The Belém Municipal Health Department stated that all procedures followed the technical protocols of the Ministry of Health.

Mortality rate of monkeypox is 0.04% to 1%. Limited healthcare like in some African regions it can get up to 10%. Mostly infants and kids. However factors like immunosuppression like HIV will increase the death risk so i guess he already has aids. Monkeypox has milder symptoms as chickenpox and after two weeks healthy people should be fine. Tecovirimat (TPOXX), approved to treat smallpox, can be used for people who are at high risk for severe illness or have severe symptoms from monkeypox.
