Gang Leader's Wife Shot While Crossing the Street
This was a slightly frustrating case to work on, largely due to misinformation among Ecuador's hyperbolic, yellow press. After several days of research, email and WA contacts, and a phone call I finally talked to enough reporters directly to get a semi-reliable accounting of the incident. But there may still be some ambiguity. It's good enough for DR at this point, anyway. 22 year old Karla was shot and killed while crossing 25th and Gold Streets in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Witnesses reported that the shooters were in a car. On foot. Or in a motorcycle. Very fucking observant. The reporter I actually spoke to directly said that the police report indicated it was two motorcycles. Witnesses said she was shot twice in the upper back. The reporter also told me that she was actually hit a third time in her lower back. I can clearly identify the upper two bullet wounds. Pretty sure the alleged third one is just above her left hip/buttock. In the first video, the woman seems to be placing her hand directly on top of that third wound, so I thought it could have been a bloody handprint from the bystander. But in the other vids, it looks very similar in pattern to the other two injuries, so I suspect it is the alleged third shot. The reporter did not directly mention it, but I believe that the other discolorations/stains on her leggings are likely because she lost control of both her bladder and bowels while dying. They definitely are not further injuries, but look in terms of color and pattern to be perimortem voiding of piss and shit to me. Initial reports claimed that she was pregnant. It was later clarified that two other unrelated people had been collateral damage in the attack, one of whom was a pregnant woman. That woman also died, so the early news got the two women confused. This woman, Karla, was identified after the fact as being the wife of 'Borrego', a notorious gang lieutenant who had been implicated in a massacre of an innocent family back in 2023. There was also a major drug war going on between his gang, The Eagles, and another Guayaquil local gang, referred to as 'The Freddy Kruger Gang.' Indeed. The cops are not yet sure whether her assassination was tied to her husband's participation in the Guasmo massacre or the current drug war. But anyway, she's dead. Here's some pics and some vids. |

It may be hard to get genuine info on if it really is a gang bosses broad as a lot of people may have no wish to talk to the press or police. Just a possibility. |

Vedderman; Thanks for all the work you had to do on this one! You got enough to fill out the gist of the story. There sounds like so much confusion about it, it may never become any clearer. Like everyone points out, talking about stuff down there can get you killed. Better to keep your mouth shut and live a little longer. |
