Looking at this from a different angle...why were they opening the 500lb bomb? They transported the bomb from the location where they found it to a warehouse. I wonder if they were going to use the explosive (TNT/Amatol) for something less legal? Like IED manufacturing? Not sure what the terrorist/anti-government outlook is in that country, but I bet this has happened before and it was successful. By the way, some modern military ordinance can be heated up and the explosives will liquifiy and you just pour it out. It solidifies and you have the makings of an IED. Perhaps they just got confused? There had to be money in it other than scrap iron.

If you use a blow torch to try to cut open a WWII bomb, then there's nothing nice to expect there, tsk! That's natural selection at its best.
