Re: 16-Year-Old Hello Kitty Fan Shot to Death in an Ambush
Depends on where you live. Our saying here (in middle America) is "we don't coast" - dual meaning - we aren't like the East or West. Good work ethic, getting along, helping your neighbor are all 'normal' here. They call us the "red fly over states" cause I guess they think we are 'backwards'

That's clever - I'll give that to you. But if you think that we "coast" in this madhouse of New York City and still get anywhere, you need a reality check. We also have an expression: "you snooze, you lose." And yes, you (and the other commentator) are generally right about the Samaritan bit (with some exceptions). People are too damn busy hustling for themselves to get involved with strangers in need. Of course the standard charitable groups (e.g. Salvation Army, etc.) are prominent in NYC.
