He was probably approaching a convoy or check point, told to stop (and they do this in various languages), and when he did not stop they opened fire. Do not be fooled by the fact that the truck is wearing what appears to be a charitable organization's label. Insurgents have even resorted to using mentally deficient children as suicide bombers detonating them remotely.

How is it even known that the truck was fired on by US soldiers? You might as well say it was the Turk insurgency looking to hyjack some stereo equipment !
