Seven suspected drug traffickers, including a Laotian, were arrested by Thai police in two incidents in Udon Thai province on Friday.
Police first arrested two suspects, including a Laotian, as they showed up in Tambon Non Soong, Muang district, to receive payment from a customer for a previous drug shipment.
Undercover narcotic police who laid in wait sprang into action to make the arrest of the duo who tried to escape in their car forcing the policemen to open fire at the car’s wheels and front windscreen.
Information extracted from the two suspects led the police to the arrest of five more members of the gang and the seizure of 230 methamphitamine tablets.
Pol Maj-Gen Phirapong Wongsamarn, Udon Thani provincial police commander, said that this gang received the ya baa tablets from Laos for distribution in Thailand.
He added that this was the first time police managed to arrest a Laotian man suspected of drug trafficking.
