On February 4, 2024, officers responded to the 1600 block of East Bianchi Road for a man with a knife.

A caller said her partner was a 32-year-old man who was bipolar and had stopped taking his medication. She said he had knives and was trying to harm himself. Another caller reported a woman bleeding from her mouth and hand, and said the woman's boyfriend had tried to kill her.

Officers found the man near the front of the gate with a knife. They repeatedly ordered him to drop it, warned him he would be shot if he did not, and called for less lethal.

Shots were fired. Afterward, on-scene audio described the man as still alert and conscious, crouching down, and still refusing to put the knife down.
