Vanderley Antônio de Lima, 31, and Edinéia Gonçalves Oliveira, 32, were shot while working as security guards at a convenience store in Guarapuava, Paraná, in the early hours of March 23, 2024. The married couple had four children.

Rodrigo Neumann Pires had been ejected from the store after a disturbance, reported as involving drug use in a bathroom, and a scuffle with the guards. He left and returned with a revolver. At about 4:17 a.m., he shot both guards in the chest as they ran back inside. Oliveira died at the scene, and Lima died during hospital treatment.

Pires was arrested later that day while hiding in woodland. He was indicted for qualified double homicide and attempted homicide. On November 4, 2025, he was convicted and sentenced to 27 years and six months in prison.

The argument began at the convenience store, around 1 am. After the disagreement, the suspect left the scene, but returned a few minutes later armed. He shot Vanderley and Edinéia, hitting them both in the chest.

Edinéia died before help arrived, while Vanderley was taken to the hospital in serious condition by EMS. However, he did not survive his injuries and also died. After committing the crime, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, but was captured in the early afternoon of the same day.

Vanderley and Edinéia leave behind four children , two 12-year-olds and two 1-year-old twins. The local community is dismayed by the loss of the security guards, who were known and respected.
