ONEONTA, N.Y. – Security video has surfaced online of the fatal officer-involved shooting in Oneonta, showing the 12 seconds between police arriving to the scene and the shooting of 23-year-old Tyler Green, as well as the aftermath. Otsego County District Attorney John Muehl verified the video, which was caught on the neighbor's security camera. The video shows the events leading up to the fatal shooting on April 6, when Green was shot by Sgt. Ralph Pajerski after threatening a woman and a child with a knife. The video shows Pajerski and another officer arriving to the scene at 1:14 p.m. When Green saw police, he lunged toward the woman, wielding a knife, saying “I’ll [expletive] kill her.” Pajerski and the second responding officer both drew their weapons, and Pajerski can be heard saying “drop it, drop the knife, drop it!” Green continued to go after the woman, but tripped and fell forward, grabbing the woman’s leg and swiping at it with the knife, causing the woman to drop the toddler and fall backward. Pajerski told Green to drop the knife, and can be seen trying to kick it out of his hand while he’s on the ground. Then Green lunged forward while on the ground, grabbing the child by the leg while still holding the knife in the other hand. That’s when Pajerski shot Green twice in the chest. Green still had the knife in hand, and could be heard screaming “You [expletive] shot me!” Pajerski told Green to drop the knife multiple times before he finally did. Pajerski then kicked the knife away from Green, and ordered him to lie on his stomach and put his hands behind his back. Green complied, and Pajerski placed handcuffs on him, as backup arrived to the scene. Green was airlifted to Albany Medical Center, where he later died. Pajerski and the second responding officer were out of work for at least one day. Acting Oneonta police chief, Lt. C.J. Witzenburg says both have returned to administrative duty. Witzenburg released a statement on April 9, saying “I am confident based on my training and experience that the Office of Special Investigations will clear up any doubt that this response was appropriate, logical, reasonable and necessary as the law requires.” The New York State Attorney General’s Office is investigating the shooting. NEWSChannel 2 has left a message with the AG’s office, and is awaiting a call back. According to Green's obituary, he was born in Cooperstown and served in the Army National Guard. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday in Oneonta. Source: https://www.wktv.com/content/news/Se...574188281.html |
