Riverside Deputy Shoots Armed Motorcyclist in Beaumont
On July 29, 2025, at 6:39 p.m., a Riverside Sheriff's K9 deputy contacted an adult male motorcyclist on the side of the road near Redlands Boulevard and San Timoteo Canyon Road in the unincorporated area of Beaumont, California. The man was identified as Justin Perry James, 53, a Beaumont resident. The deputy asked if he had any weapons and tried to pat him down after noting a heavy weight in the front of his jacket. James became uncooperative and ran toward a nearby residence. The deputy chased him and gave commands to get on the ground and drop the item in his hand. While running, James produced a firearm, and the deputy shot him. James was struck by gunfire. Deputies rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived, and he was taken to a local hospital, where he remained hospitalized. James was armed with an unregistered 9mm Taurus handgun. An investigator from the California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation, aided by the Riverside County Sheriff's Force Investigations Detail and Central Homicide Unit. The incident will also be reviewed by the Riverside County District Attorney's Office.
