Police Stop Armed Road Rage Escalation in Des Moines
On Friday, at approximately 2:30 p.m, Bradley James Ratkovich, 43, was arrested by the Des Moines Police Department after pointing a Glock 9mm handgun at two teenagers following a minor traffic accident at the intersection of Southeast 14th Street and East McKinley Avenue. A car occupied by an 18-year-old male driver and a 16-year-old female passenger rear-ended Ratkovich's vehicle. Infuriated by the fender bender, Ratkovich exited his vehicle, drew his firearm, pointed it directly at the two teens, and explicitly threatened to shoot them. Bystanders immediately called emergency services. Responding police officers arrived rapidly at the intersection, surrounding Ratkovich while his weapon was still drawn. Officers de-escalated the situation, ordered Ratkovich to drop the weapon, and took him into custody without any shots being fired. Ratkovich was booked into the Polk County Jail and faces the following initial charges: Two counts of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, two counts of First-Degree harassment and one count of Person ineligible to carry dangerous weapons. He had a prior restriction preventing him from lawfully carrying a firearm in Iowa |
