Police Seek Suspect Following Sucker-punch Attack
LA CROSSE, Police are seeking a man in connection with an unprovoked attack caught Sept. 22 on surveillance video. The victim, who granted La Crosse police permission to show his identity, was arriving for work about 3:55 a.m. Sunday morning at Rudy’s Drive In. The surveillance video shows the victim attempting to enter Rudy’s on the south side of the building, when the suspect, who is described as a younger college-aged white male, wearing a grey or light blue polo shirt with a stripe across the front, khaki shorts and white Nike tennis shoes, approaches. The suspect engages in a brief conversation with the victim, then proceeds to punch the victim. The man, James Davenport, 59, falls to the ground after he’s hit. One of his teeth was knocked out according to the police report. The suspect then runs off northbound toward La Crosse Street.
