Police Pursuit in Florida Leads to Crashing into a Bar Killing Four People

Florida. Silas Sampson, 22, was reportedly racing another vehicle when officers spotted them around 12:30 a.m.

A police pursuit ensued, involving both Tampa Police and Florida Highway Patrol, which included an attempted PIT maneuver that was unsuccessful.

Sampson's vehicle reached speeds of up to 92 mph just seconds before veering onto the sidewalk and crashing into the crowd at Bradleys bar.

Three of the victims died at the scene, and a fourth died later at the hospital. At least 13 others were injured, some critically.

Sampson was arrested at the scene and faces multiple charges, including four counts of vehicular homicide and four counts of aggravated fleeing to elude law enforcement.

Authorities do not believe the crash was a targeted act against the bar or its patrons.

The four people who died in the crash have been identified as: Christina Richards, 25, of Ohio.

Lisa Johnson (also named Shalisa Johnson in some reports), 41, of Winter Haven, Florida.

Sherman Jones, 53, of Tampa, Florida.

Marlon Collins, 53, of Bartow, Florida.

Sampson, 22, made his first appearance in court Wednesday afternoon for the new second-degree charges, three counts of fleeing to elude and three counts of reckless driving.

There was confusion in the courtroom over the charges and new documents during Sampson's first appearance on Wednesday.

Sampson was already facing multiple charges after the deadly crash, including four counts of vehicular homicide and four counts of aggravated fleeing to elude causing bodily injury or death (a first-degree felony).

His hearing will remain as scheduled for Thursday at 9:30 a.m., when the court will decide if he will get bond.

According to Hillsborough County records, Sampson received a citation from FHP in September for driving 99 mph in a 70 mph zone.

Maybe getting the license plate number and abandon the high speed pursuit would have been a better idea. They’ll call him the cause of the problem but doing a pit maneuver at speed maybe isn’t the way to handle things.

Florida isn't known for thinking.
