Phoenix Officers Fire on Armed Man During Domestic Standoff
Phoenix officers responded to a fight call on March 15, 2026, in the area of 43rd Avenue and Camelback Road. Callers reported a man yelling, a young child crying, a woman inside the home, and sounds of things being thrown around. One caller also said the man had said, "goodbye, Mom. I'm going to die today." The first officer on scene saw a young child crying in a second-story window. Other officers contacted an adult woman in the backyard behind a locked wrought-iron gate. She said the man inside had the key and had tried to choke her. The child came downstairs and contacted officers. Officers and the woman heard the man rack a gun. Officers used a Halligan tool to break open the gate and move the woman and child to safety. Officers gave the man commands to drop the gun, but he did not comply. They moved back, repositioned vehicles for distance and cover, and deployed a drone to watch the apartment door. The man pointed a gun at the drone, and the drone was later found to have been shot. Officers evacuated nearby residents, and one officer called the man to try to negotiate. While they waited for additional resources, several shots were heard from the apartment, and the officer-involved shooting occurred. Body-worn camera audio has officers reporting that the man was shooting out the window.
