SINOP, MATO GROSSO, BRAZIL – DECEMBER 10, 2025 João Ferreira da Silva, a man convicted of the brutal rape and murder of nine-year-old Bruno Aparecida dos Santos in 2005, was shot dead in Sinop, Mato Grosso, shortly after being released from prison. João had served over 20 years for the crime and also faced a separate ten-year sentence for sexually assaulting another child. The attack occurred on a street in front of a hotel, where two masked assailants confronted him and opened fire. Surveillance footage shows João being confronted and shot on the sidewalk. Not sure if being in or out or prison would've been safer, but either way he should have figured people were still talking about Bruno.
