EDMOND, (June 5, 2025) — Newly released body-worn and dashcam footage from the Edmond Police Department shows the harrowing moment when an officer was ambushed and stabbed during a routine traffic stop on May 1, 2025.

The officer was speaking with a driver when a second individual suddenly appeared, pepper-sprayed him, and lunged with a butcher knife. A violent struggle followed as the officer fought to subdue the attacker. Despite serious injuries, the officer kept control of the situation with the help of a courageous bystander who removed the knife and called for backup.

The suspect, identified as a wanted felon out of Canadian County Oklahoma for child exploitation charges, told the officer to shoot him and claimed he was supposed to be in prison that day.

A second officer arrived and deployed a TASER, finally subduing the suspect and placing him under arrest.

According to Police Chief J.D. Younger, this was a “targeted ambush,” and the officer’s survival was due to his training and composure under life-threatening pressure.

The officer is expected to recover. The suspect remains in custody and faces multiple felony charges.
