Ohio Rep Robert Mecklenborg Arrested for DUI With Woman Who's Not His Wife in Car
Drunk-driving with Viagra and a young woman in your car would get most men into trouble. But it's especially tough if you're a politician.
Ohio state Rep. Robert Mecklenborg was arrested for drunk-driving in Lawrenceburg, Ind., in April - and unfortunately for him, it was all caught on tape.
The Dearborn County police prosecutor's office released a video end of June of Mecklenborg getting pulled over by a state trooper and failing a sobriety test.
A blood test later found that the Republican official had a blood alcohol content of .097, over Indiana's .08 legal limit and traces of Viagra in his system.
The 59-year-old married father of three was also traveling with a woman who was not his wife, 26-year-old Tiona Roberts.
He refused to explain who the young woman was or why she was in his car, claiming it was "a personal matter," according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Mecklenborg, who is originally from Cincinnati, was stopped by police just after midnight on April 23 and immediately refused to take a Breathalyzer test.
In the video, Mecklenborg argues with the trooper before getting out of the car and finally stumbles to the side of the vehicle as the officer testily questions him.
The representative repeatedly insists that he is a lawyer as he fails all three parts of the standard field sobriety test.
"I don't care if you're a lawyer or not," the state trooper responded. "This isn't Ohio, this is Indiana. We do things a little different here."
Mecklenborg has since apologized for his actions and plans to continue representing the Hamilton County district of Ohio.
He is expected to appear in court on July 26 on a misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. |
