Officer Killed, Another Injured in 6300 S. Bell Traffic Stop
On August 7, 2021, Chicago police were involved in an officer-involved shooting near 6300 S. Bell Avenue during a traffic stop. A man in the stopped vehicle discharged a firearm at three Chicago police officers. One officer was killed and another was critically injured. A third officer returned fire and struck the man as he fled on foot. Chicago police later apprehended the man and the other two occupants of the stopped vehicle. The man was treated for gunshot wounds to the chest and left tricep. The officer's use of deadly force was considered objectively reasonable, necessary, and proportional, and compliant with Chicago police policy.
