On January 19, 2026, Western District officers responded to an apartment complex in the 1100 block of Park Avenue for multiple calls, including a welfare check, a disorderly person, and a report of an armed person.

Officers arrived and saw several residents outside the complex after a fire alarm had been pulled. An officer went inside and encountered an individual who was screaming and wielding a large knife.

The incident was a police officer-involved shooting.
