A Kentucky police officer had his gut and his pride wounded over the weekend when his gun accidentally went off, sending a bullet ricocheting off the walls of a Cincinnati elevator that he and his wife were in and hitting him in the stomach, police said. And it was all caught on camera.

The officer, Darryl Jouett, a 25-year veteran of the Erlanger Police Department who was off-duty at the time, was removing the gun from his holster as he and his wife were heading to their car Saturday night.

Surveillance video shows Jouett removing his gun from a holster under his coat with his right hand, then trying to put it back, while holding a box and a bag in his left hand.

In the video, Jouett falls to the floor as his wife calls for help. Jouett then gets out of the elevator when the doors open and sits down again. His wife wasn't injured.

What an idiot! Guns are not toys, there was absolutely no reason for him to be holding it. Isn't drawing your weapon still considered aggravated assault in itself in most states?
