The North Hollywood Shootout
The North Hollywood shootout was an armed confrontation between two heavily bank robbers armed and armored, Larry Eugene Phillips Jr. and Emil Matasareanu, and patrol and SWAT officers of the Police in Los Angeles to North Hollywood, Los Angeles , California February 28, 1997. It happened when responding patrol officers engaged Phillips and Matasareanu leaving a bank where the two men had just stolen. Seventeen officers and civilians sustained injuries before both robbers were killed. Phillips and Matasareanu robbed several banks prior to their attempt in North Hollywood and were notorious for their heavy weapons, including automatic rifles. Agents patrol the United States at the time were typically armed with a 9mm caliber pistol or 40 on their person, with a 12-gauge shotgun available in their cars. Phillips and Matasareanu were armed with automatic rifles and wearing bulletproof vests. Like most calibers of handguns can not penetrate body armor, patrol officers had a significant disadvantage until SWAT arrived with firepower equivalent and have also affected several semi-automatic rifles of dealer of firearms in proximity to help even the odds. The incident sparked a debate on the appropriate firepower for patrol officers to have in similar situations in the future. |

Re: The North Hollywood Shootout
No more 9mm or 12guage, the police now have assault rifles too. Yeah police now you have more firepower than ever. The police have too much control. The police operate exactly like the military. Are there less laws now than ten years ago? No.

Re: The North Hollywood Shootout
Forgive me if im wrong, but isn't the police officers stamping on Emils wounds? It looks like police brutality, sure it was a robbery but no matter what, you will and shall not treat the suspect or criminal in such ways |
