Early on Dec. 11, 2025, at about 12:30 a.m., Minneapolis police received a 911 call from a man on the 3000 block of 5th Avenue South. He reported that his mother had another person point a handgun at her. He and his mother went outside afterward, heard what sounded like a gun racking, and believed the person was still outside.

Officers in uniform arrived in marked squad cars at about 12:34 a.m. They spoke with the caller and his mother, who said the suspect was a neighbor and they believed he was inside his apartment.

Officers went to the exterior door of the suspect's apartment. The suspect came out with a handgun in his right hand. Officers gave multiple commands for him to drop the weapon, and he did not comply. One officer fired two rounds.

No one was hit by gunfire and no one was injured. The suspect was taken into custody, and a black handgun was recovered. He was being booked into the Hennepin County Jail for assaulting the woman by pointing a handgun at her.
