MI cop suspended after he's caught on tape beating teen
A Kalamazoo police officer is suspended without pay for ten days and reassigned, for allegedly roughing up a teenage suspect during an arrest. On May 22 a 16-year-old was arrested for violating rules outside the Kalamazoo Transportation Center. The incident report stated Officer Derek Nugent applied a level of force, slamming the teenager's head against the wall while escorting the teen in the hallway that leads to the booking room at the police department. The teen suffered facial injuries and damage to three of his teeth. The incident was captured on in-house police video. Acting Police Chief Jim Mallery addressed the city commission Monday night. "As the interim chief of Public Safety and the father of three young men, I found the video of this incident to be troubling," said Chief Mallery. After reviewing the case, Chief Mallery handed down the discipline, reassigning Officer Nugent out of transportation to the operations division. The teen's family has filed an official complaint against the department and has retained legal counsel. According to Chief Mallery, the police officers' union has filed a grievance on behalf of Officer Nugent. The teenager still faces charges for the original incident outside the transportation center. |

Yeah, I agree. The cop looks like he shoved him even more than he wanted to. The kid was off balance and he slammed head-first into the wall. I'm betting the cop has a pretty good record. Looks a little older and looked concerned about the kid after the fact. Hell, he knew there was a camera there.

The teen looked like he was about to get crazy, I mean the deputy stopped him from being violent, you saw how he tried to pull the deputy away? Who knows if that kid could have gotten the cuffs around the officers next! All in all the deputy/State should made to be paid for medical bills. ps - was that audio from the video? |

He was trying to pull away from the cop and twisting out of his grasp. Once you're busted, behave and you won't get hurt. Why do so many people have a problem figuring that out.
