MARYLAND: Wanted Suspect Chooses to Shoot It Out with Cops

Pick a cliché, they all work for this dude:

"Painted into a corner"... "Back against the wall"... "Going out in a blaze of glory"... "FAFO"...

BALTIMORE, (May 25, 2024) —
A Baltimore police detective was injured and a suspect died Friday night in a shooting.

Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said the detective was shot around 10:25 p.m. Friday in the 3400 block of South Hanover Street in Brooklyn.

According to police, several officers were investigating a call "where an individual fired at least 15 rounds at victims," from a few days ago.

"No one was hit during that call but (officers) were here talking to an individual who we believed was the suspect in that crime," Worley said.

Police said the officers were talking with the individual, who was sitting on steps, when the individual quickly stood up, withdrew a weapon and an exchange of gunfire happened.

"We don't know who fired first," Worley said. "(The suspect) had plenty of chances to drop the weapon, he could've cooperated, he chose not to. He pointed at our officers and the officers shot, our officers did exactly as they're trained to do."

Police confirm that the officer who was shot is a detective and that he was shot in the chest but that his protective vest saved his life. Worley said they anticipate the detective to be released from the hospital.

The officers involved are being placed on administrative leave for ten days, per protocol, and their body-worn camera video is under review. Police said at least three officers were involved in the shooting.

"We are extremely thankful and grateful our officer was not severely injured in this incident," said Mayor Brandon Scott. "We want to thank him and his fellow officers for doing exactly what they should be doing. There's been a lot of talk about whether our police officers are focused on what they should be focused on. This is what they should've been focused on, and they did their job tonight putting themselves at risk because we will continue to focus on people who are recklessly using illegal handguns and shooting at people and will not allow that to be tolerated. We're very grateful for the officers for doing the follow-up to an incident where multiple people could've been shot."

That delay was odd. The thug was clearly standing up to pull a weapon. I wonder if the delay in shooting was a group psychology thing. Meaning, if a solo cop saw the same thing, I think he would be shooting before the thug opened up.

Good shooting. Interesting that they kinda waited until he had it out and pointed at them before they opened fire. The only time dead boy fired his gun is when he was going down. Unintended firing which hit one of the officers.

Re: MARYLAND: Wanted Suspect Chooses to Shoot It Out with Cops

cop hit in the chest but could have been in his head and then the cops would have been blamed for hesitating that long. Clearly suicide by cop.

39-year-old Anthony Ferguson. "It was a Springfield 45 semiautomatic; it did have an extended magazine on it, which can carry anywhere between 27 and 29 rounds," Baltimore Police Deputy Commissioner Brian Nadeau said.

According to police, five officers shot 39 rounds at Ferguson.

ANTHONY FERGUSON was born on August 3, 1984, to Lisa Chambers and the late DeCarlo Ferguson, also known as Scrapple. Anthony's untimely death occurred on May 24, 2024.

Affectionately known as Antony or Antony, he attended Baltimore City Public School. Antony was a family man who loved animals.

He was a dedicated, hardworking man who took pride in everything he did. He was employed at Baltimore City Public Works and the Academy Bus Company for several years.

Antony was excited about getting his motorcycle license and promised his aunt Tina that he would take her for a ride, which she would always reject, stating, "I'm not getting on a motorcycle with you. "Antony enjoyed cooking and listening to rap music.

Growing up, Antony had an unbreakable bond with his aunt Rena. He also strongly connected with his two cousins, Brianna and Keyonna.

Not only was he a man of his word, but he was also a protector, Esean and AJ were Antony,s pride and joy. There was never a time when he came around and didn't talk about his sons.
Public court records indicate Ferguson had a long and violent criminal history that included multiple gun and drug charges. He also faced a manslaughter charge.
