On June 24, 2024, around 5 p.m., a level 3 use of force happened in the alley of 8114 South Hermitage Avenue in Chicago.

Officer Tyler Murphy, an on-duty Chicago police officer, started a foot pursuit of a man in relation to an earlier person with a gun call.

During the chase, the man stopped running and Officer Murphy collided with him. The man fell backward and hit his head on an uneven concrete slab.

The man later died from complications from the fall. Allegations against Officer Murphy for excessive use of force and for viewing his body-worn-camera footage before writing his Tactical Response Report narrative were not sustained.
