On June 24, 2024, at about 5 p.m., a level 3 use of force occurred in the alley of 8114 South Hermitage Avenue in Chicago.

The incident followed an earlier person with a gun call. On-duty CPD Officer Tyler Murphy initiated a foot pursuit of a man in relation to that call.

During the pursuit, the man stopped running and Officer Murphy collided with him. The man fell backward and hit his head on an uneven concrete slab.

The man later died due to complications from the fall. Allegations that Officer Murphy used excessive force and viewed his body-worn camera footage before writing his Tactical Response Report narrative were not sustained.
