On August 16, 2023, Hudson County Sheriff's Officer Andrew Conti, Jr. was in a marked K-9 police vehicle in Secaucus, New Jersey, attempting to stop a motorcycle for motor vehicle violations. The motorcycle was operated by Reymis Geronimo-Segura, 28, of North Bergen.

Officer Conti saw the motorcycle near Paul Amico Way and Seaview Drive, then followed it northbound on County Avenue with his lights and sirens activated. He caught up when the motorcycle got behind a tractor-trailer. The motorcycle passed the truck on the right, while Conti stayed behind the truck.

Conti radioed dispatch that he would not be pursuing. Seconds later, the motorcycle crashed into a white SUV on County Avenue as the SUV was pulling out of Charles Street. Conti continued without lights or sirens, saw the crash scene, got out, and requested medical assistance.

Geronimo-Segura had been ejected from the motorcycle. He was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, where lifesaving efforts were performed, and was pronounced dead at about 1:13 p.m. The other civilians involved had non-life-threatening injuries.

A state grand jury voted no bill and no criminal charges were filed against Officer Conti.
