Syracuse, NY -- A Syracuse teenager surrendered to Syracuse police this morning in the hit-and-run crash Dec. 2 that badly injured a nurse crossing Irving Avenue in front of Crouse Hospital.

Andre Escobar, 16, of 326 N. Beech St., was charged with assault, a felony, and reckless driving, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle.


Escobar was accompanied by a lawyer when he surrendered to police this morning.

Rebecca Forsythe, 61, suffered two fractured vertebra in her neck, two broken bones in her left leg, a knee injury and a cut to her head that received stitches.

Forsythe is employed as a traveling nurse through Nursefinders, which offers temporary employment to nurses.

Forsythe works a 13-week contract with Crouse Hospital and was expecting to go to Florida to work as a nurse after the holidays, she said.

Forsythe was in a crosswalk in front of the hospital when she was struck about 9:30 p.m. Dec. 2.

Yea she has the right of way and there is a crosswalk but she should have looked and flipped him off. It's alot less painful...poor lady.

whether she had the right of way or not, she should have looked first. i dont get why people dont look more often but just cross.
