Bodycam footage from March 2025 captures police pulling over a 30-year-old female driver and asking her to step out of the vehicle in Illinois.

Christina Formella, was in the car with her husband. Moments later, police put her in handcuffs without telling her why.

Police told the woman why she was arrested while she was sitting in the back of the squad car.

Formella is a special ed teacher from Downers Grove South High School outside Chicago and police say she carried on an inappropriate relationship with a 15 year old student, which she denies as she's good looking and everybody comes after her.

She has since faced escalating charges totaling 55 counts related to grooming, sexual assault, and abuse over nearly two years.

As of today the date of a scheduled pretrial hearing, no trial date has been set, and Formella maintains her innocence. If convicted on all counts, she faces up to 60 years in prison.

Christina Formella (née Kiotis), born around 1995, is a 30-year-old resident of Downers Grove, Illinois. She obtained her teaching license in 2017 and joined Community High School District 99 (which includes Downers Grove South High School) in 2020 as a special education teacher and girls' soccer coach.

Formella tutored students, including the alleged victim, and coached soccer, using her positions of authority to allegedly build trust with the boy.

She resigned from the school following her arrest.

She is married to Michael (Mike) Formella, a supportive spouse who has publicly stood by her throughout the proceedings.

The couple listed their marital home for sale in September 2025 to comply with pretrial restrictions.

Formella is currently residing at her parents' $560,000 home on a golf course.

Prosecutors allege that Formella groomed and sexually abused a male student starting when he was 14 years old (in approximately December 2023) and continuing until at least early 2025, when he was 15.

The abuse reportedly began during a pre-school tutoring session in a classroom at Downers Grove South High School, where Formella allegedly sexually assaulted the boy.

Over nearly two years, the pair allegedly engaged in sexual acts more than 50 times, with at least 45 occurrences at the school (including during school hours) and at least 5 at Formella's home.

Formella is accused of using her role as coach and tutor to solicit the minor, exchanging explicit text messages, and engaging in indecent solicitation.

The boy's mother discovered the texts on his phone, prompting the report. The victim, now 16, has been granted a protective order.

A DuPage County Grand Jury added 52 counts based on the victim's further disclosures: 20 counts of criminal sexual assault (Class 1 felony), 20 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse (Class 1 felony), 6 counts of indecent solicitation of a child (Class 3 felony), and 6 counts of grooming (Class 4 felony).

Prosecutors sought pretrial detention, but Judge Mia McPherson denied it, releasing Formella on pretrial conditions (Video 2) including GPS monitoring and a 5,000-foot "buffer zone" from the victim's home, school, and workplace.

Michael Formella told investigators he knew the victim only as a soccer player and was unaware of any relationship or explicit messages; he does not check his wife's phone.

He has relocated with her and continues to support her publicly.
