On March 9, 2026, Chicago police were alerted to a vehicle wanted in connection with an incident on the I-290 expressway earlier that day. A police camera later captured the vehicle on North Homan Avenue, and officers in an unmarked vehicle tried to engage the driver a short time later.

The vehicle fled, struck a pedestrian in a crosswalk, and kept going. Officers pursued it through an alley, where it encountered a CTA bus stopped perpendicular to the alley.

The driver tried to get out by driving between the bus and a parked vehicle, striking the bus several times. More officers arrived and gave commands to exit the vehicle.

The vehicle then reversed and, while it was driving toward the bus, an officer fired a gun. The person in the vehicle was struck, taken to a hospital, and pronounced dead. Two officers were also taken to a hospital in good condition. A weapon was recovered at the scene.
