On March 9, 2026, Chicago police were alerted to a vehicle wanted in connection with an incident on I-290 earlier that day. A POD camera later captured the vehicle on North Homan Avenue.

A short time later, officers in an unmarked vehicle tried to engage the driver. The vehicle fled, hit a pedestrian in a crosswalk, and continued on.

Officers pursued the vehicle through an alley, where it came upon a CTA bus stopped perpendicular to the alley. The vehicle tried to get out by driving between the bus and a parked vehicle, striking the bus several times.

Additional officers arrived and gave commands for the driver to exit. The vehicle then reversed and, while driving toward the bus, an officer fired a gun.

The driver was struck, taken to a hospital, and pronounced deceased. Two officers were also taken to a hospital in good condition. A weapon was recovered at the scene.
