On May 8, 2025, Chicago police responded to a call of a person with a gun in the 13400 block of S. Baltimore Avenue.

Officers saw an individual enter a vehicle and flee the scene. A short time later, the vehicle crashed in Hammond, Indiana.

The individual got out of the vehicle, and gunfire was exchanged between the individual and the officers. The individual was struck multiple times and taken to a hospital, where they were pronounced deceased.

The officers were not struck by gunfire and were taken to a hospital for observation. A gun was recovered at the scene.
