Donald Mullins Jumps Courthouse Railing: Columbus, Ohio, May 20, 2021
Donald Mullins, 44, broke free of two sheriff's deputies and jumped over a sixth-floor courthouse railing in Columbus, Ohio, on May 20, 2021, moments after receiving a four-to-six-year prison sentence for robbery. He fell to the floor below, broke his leg and suffered injuries to his face and nose. Deputies quickly recaptured him. Mullins had pleaded guilty to one count of robbery. At his sentencing in Franklin County Common Pleas Court, he asked for time to undergo surgery before entering prison, but Judge Mark Serrott denied the request. After leaving the courtroom, Mullins pulled away from the deputies, ran along the walkway and vaulted the glass railing. Security footage captured the escape attempt, while a witness's phone recording showed him moving across the bloody floor afterward. He was taken to Grant Medical Center. An additional charge of escaping custody was pending after his recapture. |
