A man was shot by law enforcement Thursday night in Daytona Beach after he charged an officer with a knife in hand, as seen on the officer’s body cam.

The incident took place 10 p.m. at the Icon Apartments inside One Daytona, according to the Daytona Beach Police Department.

Officers were advised two men were arguing in the parking lot off Legends Lane where one man, later identified as 25-year-old Andrew Mansilla, said he would stab someone.

An officer arrived on the scene and requested backup upon seeing the aggressive situation and spotting what she determined to be a knife, according to the body cam video.

Multiple officers surrounded Mansilla and ordered him to get on the ground. Mansilla ignored the order and charged one of the officers with the knife in hand.

The officers continued to order Mansilla to stand down; one of them yelling “don’t make me shoot you.” Mansilla continued to charge. An officer standing next to Mansilla deployed a taser, hitting Mansilla, who momentarily fell to the ground.

Mansilla than stood up and once again charged the officer, who then fired their gun three times until Mansilla hit the ground.

Mansilla was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition. No other injuries were reported.

The identity of the officer who discharged their weapon was not released as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates the incident.

Those officers will be placed on administrative leave with pay until the investigation concludes, which is standard procedure in these types of incidents.

Cops need to get better police issued weaponry with superior stopping power. How can some numbnuts take three shots from a police hand firearm and survive?

Those cops did a great job handling a rapidly escalating situation. I think the last "get on the ground" holler was a test to make sure all the fight was out of him before laying hands on the bad guy for cuffing. When she saw he was non-responsive, she skipped the cuffing and went right to rescue mode. That was a cool headed cop considering she stood down a charging maniac with a knife. I noticed she kept up steady comms throughout the incident too.
