Dash Cam Shows Toyota Camry Hitting Police Car

Buffalo Grove police released the dash cam video of a traffic stop in May, 2008 showing a Toyota Camry backing up over a Buffalo Grove Police car.

The driver of the Toyota Camry was stopped for speeding (58 mph in a 35 mph zone westbound on Dundee Road).

After he was told that the conversation about the charge was over, he was told to safely pull away from the traffic stop, and the Buffalo Grove police officer returned to his squad car.

The driver turned his left turn signal on, indicating he was about to drive in with the flow of traffic.

The Toyota then backed up right on to of the front of the police car, a Ford Crown Victoria.

The left rear wheel of the Camry went through the windshield of the police car and came as close as 6 inches to the police officer's face.

The accident just west of one of Buffalo Grove's Fire Stations.
The Buffalo Grove police officer reported the accident location as 555 West Dundee Road (Route 68) -- the address for the First Midwest Bank in Buffalo Grove.

The driver, Niles resident Henry Raskin, 70, was pulled over about 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2008. After being given a speeding ticket, police added a charge of reckless driving.
Although an ambulance was request to the scene, no injuries were reported.

Arlington Heights Police assisted Buffalo Grove Police on this crash. Arlington Heights and Buffalo Grove are suburbs just northwest of Chicago, Illinois.

That was on the Countdown the other night. I tried to link to it, but could only find an embed script which wouldn't work here.

The longer video shows the cop writing him the ticket and walking back to the cruiser. It was when the old guy tried to drive away that he maybe got the gears confuzzled.
