Cop Intimidates a Man from Video Recording Officers Piling on Top of a Man

Screwing citizens over is pretty much protocol for any form of law enforcement or politician in D.C.

Re: Cop Intimidates a Man from Video Recording Officers Piling on Top of a Man

Oh God what dummies. This does absolutely nothing to build confidence in the police...in fact, it looks like they're trying to hide and cover up something. What boobs. Those coppers look absolutely horrible...what idiot authorized such baggy and sloppy uniforms...my God get introduced to a good tailor...and who said it was alright to have a beard (or in this case halfassed beards)? And the sloppy demeanor and lack of command presence...these guys are rank ametures and should be disciplined for looking like shit, let alone their complete lack of common look at the damned tattoos...cover those up...they don't belong on an officer in uniform.

I think the guy videoing the incident handled himself very well in the face of utter buffoonery by those officers. They turned what looked like a good arrest into a conspiracy and fuel for the anti-police crowd. They've now made this whole rinky dinky arrest into a cause. Have we learned nothing about public relations after all these years? Agencies need to start screening police candidates better and stop hiring these idiots...it's not like these fools became bullies after they were hired.

I must say that I am somewhat sick of everyone butting their noses in where they have no business to be and then scream to the heavens when they get stepped on...which of course was the goal. If everyone is going to start filming every police use of force, then study about what you're seeing and learn about what police work is all about. You don't have to be so ridiculously obvious in filming the police unless you're looking for a confrontation. Just be discreet. This guy ultimately did the right thing...but he took a huge risk that officer Billy black glove would arrest him on some trumped up charge. Make no mistake...if you're arrested it going to get expensive and cost you. It's also going to take time to clear your name and prove your case. Why chance it...take your video and shut up about it. If something's wrong, take it to that agency's internal affairs or the local news.

See...that's just what I'm talking about...negative public perception. In years past you'd only hear comments like that from assholes, hippy scum, and the usual arrest bait. Now you hear it from a lot of folks that are not scum bags and not involved in the criminal justice system...and that's not good. In fact I think that it's the common perception of law enforcement from the 20 to 40 year old age group. They seem to despise the cops and at the very best...are highly suspicious of the police. When is the law enforcement community going to pull their heads out of their asses and pay attention? This is going to grow into a major problem if not addressed soon. Forty years ago you would never have heard normal folks talking about how to stand up for your rights in the face of police bullying.

Re: Cop Intimidates a Man from Video Recording Officers Piling on Top of a Man

What's interesting is that the 20 to 40 year old age group that are so suspicious of the police is also the same age group of the law enforcement officers that seem to be doing the stupid heavy handed things that draws the public's attention and the ire of anti-police groups. What's up with that age group? Heavy handed anti-police and heavy handed police? There's got to be a doctoral dissertation in there somewhere. Is it the militarization of municiple police? The increased numbers of military veterans in municipal law enforcement and/or anti-police advocates? It's obviously a growing issue and there has to be an explanation in there somewhere. I'm not faulting the anti-police folks...I think in a lot of instances they're right on the money. I just don't agree with the manner they often use to voice their concerns. I think they're more subtle ways to accomplish the same goals that would be safer and healthier to all concerned.

I think the general public has just seen so many instances of bad police work that the bad just far outshines the good work done everyday in every city around the world.

The good stuff police do never gets posted, only the bad stuff

Re: Cop Intimidates a Man from Video Recording Officers Piling on Top of a Man

I think that the whole instant video recorders thing is the primary issue. For obvious reasons, people don't record police when nothing interesting happens...so you only see police misconduct or ham handed incidents. Who in their right mind is going to film a boring routine street contact? It's just not human nature. Unfortunately, this constant stream of dumb moves, over barring police, and shaky unconstitutional activity, pushes everyday folks in feeling like bad cops are everywhere. It's really going to change thecway policing is conducted and not for the better I'm afraid.

Re: Cop Intimidates a Man from Video Recording Officers Piling on Top of a Man

By the way, no offense meant to Pyramid Head in my quote/comments. I can completely understand his feelings. If I hadn't been a copper for so long and knew what really goes on day to day...I'd probably feel the exact same way. I'm just sad that police are no longer associated with helping people and service to the community anymore...and are looked on more as an occupying army or worse. Most of us really di get into the business to help and serve...not to bully average tax payer's.

Re: Cop Intimidates a Man from Video Recording Officers Piling on Top of a Man

why avoid being video recorded if they're doing nothing wrong? what's the "public servant" thing pointing to when they're trying to bully the people they are serving and paying taxes for their wages.
Give the guard a billy club in a public joint and usually. most would already think he's above all the paying customers just because he holds the beat power.

same with "most" (i said most, my stalkers... not all) police officer. just because they were carrying the gun, they think everyone should obey them even when they are being unreasonable.
